let's do some good this week

Platlanta is one of those things that I just assume most How I'd Fix Atlanta people already know about on account of how it just feels like that kinda vibe? But you know what they say happens when you assume.

So! Platlanta is a couple friends of HIFA who enjoy celebrating, examining, and generally obsessing over ATL's history. They're good people, real curious, and you should absolutely go follow them on Instagram if you don't already.

Recently, the Platlantans reached out with an idea. They suggested working with local printing legends Danger Press to slap a logo from this 1919 bird’s eye map of Atlanta onto a bunch of t-shirts. What's more, they wanted to then sell those shirts, donating 100% of the proceeds to a good cause. Would How I'd Fix Atlanta wanna help with this project? Hell yes, we would. And so here we are, typing this email at you.

What’s the good cause? Great question. Here's something we can all agree on: humans should be treated with dignity regardless of their immigration status. With that in mind, we’ll be donating the proceeds to the Atlanta-based El Refugio.

El Refugio supports detainees and their families in and around the Stewart Detention Center, which is the third largest detention center by average daily population in the United States. El Refugio's Hospitality House hosts families and other visitors of detainees from a couple of miles away from the infamous detention center in Lumpkin. They also provide a helpline to detainees inside Stewart, gas cards to visitors, legal referrals, and more.

Sounds good, right? You get some sweet apparel, some folks in a tough spot get the support they need and deserve. This is a super-limited-edition run of 100 shirts, so make with the quickness.
