drinking big beers at the airport

Good morning.

In early 2024, I decided to turn a multi-year Twitter bit about drinking big beers at the airport into an actual essay. It was a couple hundred words long, then eventually it was like 700 words, then it ballooned up to 1,200 or so words, and then I edited it down to just under a thousand.

After that, I kinda ignored it, kinda pitched it around, showed it to people I trusted, kept tweaking it. I had more or less given up on the thing when Atlanta legend Sarah Lawrence told me she'd like to make it into a zine.

So that's what we did. Sarah asked Josh LaFayette to do some illustrations. And then she designed the zine and printed off a few dozen copies on the Risograph printer in her home. Pretty rad if you ask me.

She gave almost all of them out to her newsletter subscribers, but I've got five (5) that I'd like to send to people reading this right now. All you have to do is become a paid subscriber of Sarah's newsletter, reply to this email to show me you did that, and include your mailing address.

Her newsletter is great, by the way. She showcases all the cool stuff she's working on, shares creative resources and animal facts, and sends things to her subscribers through the actual mail. You may also remember Sarah as the person who wrote about putting solar panels in our parking lots for How I'd Fix Atlanta in 2022.

Speaking of HIFA, the October essay will be hitting inboxes in the next week or two. That's all for now! I hope you're well. Give someone a hug today.
